Position: Toad&Co Men's Apparel Designer

Department: Design

Reports To: Sr. Design Manager

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

The Men’s Designer is a key contributor to the collaborative design process, driving the growth and success of the men’s business by creating relevant, innovative concepts that speak to the active, casual lifestyle of the Toad&Co customer. Brings skill and passion for creating clothing with a distinctive Toad point of view: relevant yet enduring style balanced with comfort, versatility, function and environmental intelligence. Brings understanding of the outdoor industry, experience working with technical fabrics, outerwear and performance layers. Brings instincts for trends, innovation, pattern, texture and color. Has strong knowledge of fabrics and issues related to sustainability, is knowledgeable about construction, very particular about how clothes fit, and understands highest quality.

  • Work with VP of Design and Merchandising, Sr. Design Manager and Design team to develop seasonal direction and inspiration, identify fabric needs, product concepts, color palette, print and yarn dye concepts
  • Create relevant, innovative design concepts. Ensure products meet Toad & Co. principles for balancing comfort, versatility, style and environmental intelligence, are of the highest quality and support overall business strategies
  • Effectively communicate and present design concepts through reviews and formal line presentations
  • Provide style definition creating tech packs, detailed drawings, BOMs, fabric details, color, trims, yarn-dyes and print patterns; define product function fit requirements
  • Design with full awareness of price targets and margin goals. Work with product development and production to source appropriately and to find design solutions to achieve cost, price point and margin goals
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends, colour, fabrics, trims, garment construction, washes, finishes, and relevant garment technology
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and agents to support relationships and achieve design and environmental goals
  • Travel to vendors/factories as needed, to review seasonal development progress, discover new product concepts and maintain good relationships
  • Travel for inspiration and market research, trade shows, conferences to expand mind, experience culture, trends and monitor relevant competition
  • Ensure that sustainability issues are top of mind and support continuous improvement for the overall sustainability of products and day-to-day business
  • Support and contribute to the Toad&Co culture of engagement, optimism, continuous learning, curiosity, fun, team building and giving back to our communities

  • College degree in Apparel Design
  • 5+ years of relevant design experience
  • Excellent proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Excel
  • Proficiency in Generation Digital, Photoshop, InDesign and other design software preferred
  • Knowledge of patterns and garment construction
  • Understand textile construction, finishes and related performance
  • Must be detail-oriented, committed to deadlines and able to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Position: Creative Writing Intern

Department: Brand and Marketing

Reports To: Creative Director

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

We’re looking for a Brand Creative Writing intern to join our Brand and Marketing team for the summer. Intern will be instrumental in outward facing customer communications and will touch all aspects of content, including blogs, campaign assets, digital ads, website, product copy, and social media. The ideal candidate brings strong creative writing skills, a passion for learning, and an interest in sustainability and/or apparel. Has a positive attitude and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, completing assignments on time and working within tight deadlines. Develops polished and compelling content that requires little to no editing.

This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to how a brand team translates business needs to consumer communications. Candidate will finish the internship with critical skills in adapting brand voice across various platforms and campaigns. This is an excellent internship for someone looking for experience as a brand writer.

    Position: Retail Sales and Inventory Lead (Freeport Store)

    Department: Retail

    Reports To: Store Manager

    Location: Freeport, ME

    The sales and inventory lead is a key part of the retail management team in Freeport and bridges the gap between inventory operations and the sales floor. Brings experience and confidence to the sales floor to motivate sales associates, drives sales and provides excellent customer service. Provides support to operations in maintaining inventory management system.

    It is a full time position and weekend availability is a must. There is potential for health and dental benefits.

    • Be a role model for friendly and brand-oriented sales
    • Maintain positive and open communication with others on the store leadership team
    • Work with operations manager to receive, organize, and prepare inventory to the floor
    • Effectively multitask and prioritize between sales floor needs and inventory management projects
    • Maintain merchandising standards on the sales floor
    • Assist with the hiring process and in training all new sales associates. Communicate company and store polices and guidelines. Follow loss prevention guidelines
    • Identify, prioritize, and allocate daily tasks to sales associates
    • Assist in scheduling for sales floor
    • Participate in store events
    • Store opening and closing
    • Possible occasional travel to trade shows, sales meetings, and/or shops in wholesale dealer base

    • Retail experience in the clothing and/or outdoor industry is preferred, but not a requirement
    • Must be detail-oriented and able to maintain an inventory management system. Experience with Excel is preferred
    • Must be a problem-solver and approach challenges with a positive attitude. Willing to contribute ideas. Able to take general guidelines and turn them into action
    • Must be comfortable in a leadership role. Able to be “in charge” when other leadership is not available
    • Excellent communication skills and experience working in group settings
    • Must love the outdoors, whether it's camping, climbing a mountain, or enjoying a drink on the patio
    • Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time. Able to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry product, necessary for customer service, inventory re-stock and store merchandising. Comfortable climbing ladders
