Things our moms were right about – that we didn't admit until we were outside.

Before we had trail maps or trekking poles or a carefully curated packing list, we had her.

She's the one who made us bring an extra layer when the sky looked "fine." Who insisted on the reusable water bottle before it was a personality trait. Who said leave it better than you found it like it was obvious – because to her, it was.

Turns out she was right all along. 

The OG Mother Nature wasn't just the world outside – she was the woman who first walked us into it. And in her honor, here are a few things she was absolutely, completely right about:

Always bring a layer. "You'll thank me later" has never been more true than at 4pm on a mountain when the wind picks up. She knew.

Sunscreen is non-negotiable. She didn't care if it was cloudy. She didn't care if you were "only going to be outside for a little bit." She cared about your future self, and honestly? Same. (Bonus points if your Sunkissed clothes are doing half the work.)

Slow down. Not every hike is a race. Not every trail needs a PR. She stopped to look at things – wildflowers, birds, weird rocks – and we thought it was uncool. We do it now. Constantly.

Leave no trace. Pack it in, pack it out. Don't pick the flowers. Stay on the path. Before it was an outdoor ethic, it was just... what she said.

A good meal tastes better outside. Sandwiches hit different at elevation. Thermos soup is peak comfort. Trail mix is a love language. She knew.

You don't need much. A good pair of shoes. Water. A Bianca Sweater to layer over anything. Each other. She was a minimalist before minimalism was a thing – and she never needed a gear guide to figure it out.
