Being a responsible company includes making thoughtful decisions when it comes to day-to-day business. At headquarters, we converted all lights to LED bulbs and participate in a composting program. All the print materials we produce are printed on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified papers made from a mixture of recycled paper and wood pulp from sustainably managed tree farms, not forests. We offset our energy use by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for all three of our Toad&Co locations. RECs from 3Degrees® support the development of emission-free renewable energy and carbon reduction projects.
The decisions we make at our headquarters in Santa Barbara can impact facilities across the world, so we are the first step in upholding corporate social responsibility. We are committed to promoting fair labor practices and safe working conditions in all factories producing Toad&Co goods. Manufacturers who make our product are held to our Workplace Code of Conduct to provide employees with a sustainable work environment. Every year we visit vendors’ facilities to ensure first hand that we continue to produce our clothing with integrity.
We believe that you could visit any of our factories and leave not thinking less of Toad&Co or our products. When we partner with a manufacturer, we look for strong company leadership and a commitment to human rights and environmentally conscious practices. For example, our partner in Turkey manages the entire manufacturing process from organic cotton farming, to making fabrics, to assembling final garments. This dramatically reduces the environmental footprint associated with material transportation and increases traceability on all production platforms. Recently they have converted almost the entire factory to solar and wind energy – a transition that has reduced their carbon emissions by half. We are proud of the long-lasting relationships we have with many of our vendors.
In 1997 we partnered with Search, Inc. to co-found the Planet Access Company, a full-functioning warehouse that trains and employs adults with disabilities. Every year, PAC employs up to 70 individuals with disabilities in paid, train-to-work opportunities. 100% of Toad&Co’s inventory is picked, packed, and shipped by the PAC warehouse crew with unmatched reliability and enthusiasm. We use recycled and recyclable materials in all of our packaging. Our hangtags are 100% recyclable and made from recycled card-stock. The polybags used to protect garments during transit are made from 50% post-consumer recycled materials and are further recyclable. We even redesigned our polybags to move the air hole toward the top, making it a great reusable bag for picking up after your dog.
