Since 2013, we've hosted the annual Grilled Cheese Smackdown – a cheesy battle royale and the quest for the Golden Spatula, awarded to the best grilled cheese sandwich of the night. We bring together friends, family and community members to eat, drink local beer (thanks Topa Topa), enter to win sweet raffle prizes, and support our friends (and fellow 1% for the Planet members) The Organic Soup Kitchen.
It's one of our favorite nights of the year and the creative sammies do not disappoint. This year, veteran team UCSB Environmental Markets Lab took home the trophy with Sammie, the Spicy Sailor – and they were kind enough to share their very delicious secrets with us. Behold the winning recipe:
